    What’s up with DNA tests?

I confess, I don’t know a lot about DNA, but my little brother has been BUGGING me about taking a DNA test to find out if he was adopted or not (lol no joke). I personally think it’s a waste of money, but is it worth getting the test done just to satisfy my brother’s curiosity?

I didn’t know you can get DNA tests done from home? I thought they were only available for law enforcement to catch criminals or something.

Uh, yeah. Have you just woken up from a coma after 25 years? Welcome to the 21st Century. Nowadays, you can buy plenty of do-it-yourself DNA tests online. They’re everywhere.

I’ve taken DNA tests before and they’re super fun! I did it just out of curiosity, not to test my parentage or anything.

DNA is one of those subjects that people have a superficial knowledge of. It can be complicated to understand, but it’s still a very fascinating subject.

One test that many people take is a paternity test. There could be any number of reasons for doing such a test (I’ll let your imagination fill in the rest). These paternity tests are pretty accurate and can give conclusive evidence. The results cannot be refuted 99.99% of the time.

Let’s say a woman has had several partners. She gets pregnant by one of them. Her partners are hoping it isn’t (or perhaps is) theirs. A DNA test can prove beyond doubt that “Stephen” is the father. “Carlos” and “Trevor” cannot be the father.

Now, sometimes, the woman may try to con a partner. She may have told Carlos that he is the father. She demands he pay child support. Perhaps he does. One day, he does a DNA test and finds out the child is not his.

    Dun…dun…dun…

LMAO. What on earth did I just read above? I cannot believe I just read fanfiction on this forum.

Since you liked my story so much, here’s another example.

You may have read or heard about how a brother and sister finally met years later after they were separated. Perhaps their mother gave them up for adoption?

Each may be aware that they have a sibling and decide to search for each other. Anyone can also claim that it is them. This may be to swindle the other, or it could be that they experienced something similar.

The only way to know, should they eventually find each other, is to do a DNA test. The good thing about DNA tests is that con artists cannot get away with anything.

For example, I could claim to be Mick Jagger’s son. Maybe I have the same features. I want access to his millions. Once a DNA test is done, I could be in a lot of trouble!

Many people, such as myself, are interested in their ancestry. I love history as well, so I decided to do one of these tests to find out more. I contacted CRI Genetics and decided to go forward with a test. If you are interested, you can get in touch with them too.

I found out that I have some Asian ancestry, even though I’ve never stepped foot into the continent my entire life. It’s pretty darn amazing what you can find out from the test!

When you take a DNA test, you begin the journey innocently enough and find out some pretty amazing things about your ancestors. If this intrigues you, you should go for it.

Who knows, you may have a famous relative! Perhaps your great-great-great-grandfather was an infamous criminal. You never know what you might unearth!
